The Police at Sofoline in Kumasi are holding a man suspected to have stabbed his recalcitrant niece to death at Atwima-Techiman, near Kumasi, over her refusal to break up with the boyfriend.

Stephen Ofori Afriyie was said to have expressed strong disapproval of the deceased, Akua Frimpomaa’s love affair, and had warned her to end it, but she would have none of that.

Matters came to a head, late on Monday night, when the suspect reportedly picked a knife and drove it through the neck, killing her instantly.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Tanko, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident said Afriyie was arrested by the people in the community and handed over to the police.

He is believed to have received severe beating and brought to the police station in bad shape.

ASP Tanko said the suspect is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and that given his poor condition they were yet to take his statement.

The body of the deceased had, meanwhile, been deposited at the mortuary of the very same facility for autopsy.
