The 15-month delayed salaries of some fresh teachers in the Northern region have been paid, regional Minister Moses Mabingba has announced.
He said the Ghana Education Service released the funds to pay the 2011 year group of teachers contrary to claims that nothing has been done about the issue.
The teachers recently threatened a demonstration if their outstanding salaries weren’t paid as soon as possible.
But Moses Mabingba said at the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Bimbilla EP Training College at the weekend that only about 20 percent of the teachers remain unpaid and promised their situation is being worked on.
But the Teachers dispute the Minister’s claim. Baako Yahaya, leader of the aggrieved teachers in an interview with XYZ News said only a few people have received their salaries.
“Only some few people have received their money…and they are not even up to five percent. With all due respect I don’t think that fifty percent have received their salaries”.
